摘要
Tool surface temperature distribution and tool wear are important parameters in the cutting process. It is important to reduce the wear degree of tool surface for tool life. In this paper, a semi-elliptical profiling tool is designed according to the shape of ellipse and compared with three other tools with different shapes, and the effects of different shape parameters on the temperature and wear of Ti-6Al-4V cutting process are discussed. The contact angle of chip and texture and the direction of chip flow are compared, and the following shape parameters are discussed: tip distance, texture size, and distance to each micro-texture. The effects of these parameters are evaluated in terms of temperature and wear. It is found that the semi-elliptical tool designed according to the shape of ellipse can effectively reduce the wear depth and the surface temperature of the tool, and it is more stable for the variation of different texture parameters. We found that the elliptical micro-textured/grooved cutting tool has good stability and can face a variety of working conditions.
