Application of English General Academic Writing for Non-English Major Postgraduates in Engineering Universities

This paper proposes the application of English General Academic Writing to satisfy the need of cultivating academic English competence for non-English major postgraduates in engineering universities. It defines the main features of EGAP and then establishes a framework for the proposed courses and offers course contents and illustrates tentative teaching procedures. The results demonstrate that it is definitely possible for students to acquire sound academic English literacy with the help of general rules and solid foundation of basic skills from the analysis of core text types, particularly in reading and writing, by reading disciplinary-specific literature in English both extensively and intensively with the guidance of their tutors.
