Effects of Unsteady Downstream Conditions on the Gas Flow through a Sonic Nozzle

摘要
A sonic nozzle (critical nozzle) has been used to measure the mass flow rate of gas The present study addresses an experimental result of unsteady gas flow through a sonic nozzle In order to investigate the effects of back-pressure fluctuations on the critical nozzle flows, an excited pressure oscillation with an amplitude and fiequency was assumed downstream of the exit of the sonic nozzle The results obtained show that for Reynolds numbers under 17 781 the unsteady effects of the pressure fluctuations could propagate upstream of the throat of the sonic nozzle even in choked flow conditions While for high Reynolds numbers the pressure disturbances occurring at the exit of the sonic nozzle did not propagate upstream beyond the nozzle throat
