The testing of low Reynolds number k-epsilon models by DNS data for an oscillatory boundary layer

Five versions of low Reynolds number k-epsilon model, including the original one, have been tested by using the DNS data of two types of wave boundary layer; one with sinusoidal and another with fiat crested velocity variation at free stream. The comparison is made for velocity, turbulence kinetic energy, Reynolds stress and wall shear stress. It is found that despite the incorrect near wall behavior of the turbulence energy dissipation rate, the original model performs very well for the present cases. All the modern versions of the model are not so successful as may be expected due to their correct asymptotic properties near the wall.
