What strategies could be employed, in French, to feminize terms and expressions containing the word "homme" in order to designate a woman practising an activity traditionally concerning men such as hommeorchestre, prud'homme, chasse a l'homme? How should one, in turn, masculinize terms and expressions containing the word "femme" and designating a man practising an activity traditionally reserved for women such as sage-femme? What feminine forms could render borrowings containing the word "man" like "ombudsman" (Swedish) or "cameraman"? This article answers these questions while proposing, for Canada and Quebec, a French denominational system that follows both gram in atically-co rrect rules of gender formation and terminological rules of lexical creativity.
