Atmospheric corrosion of stainless steels used for the eaves of buildings

The atmospheric corrosion behavior of different stainless steels (SS) applied to the eaves of a building in a coastal area was investigated. SS used for the eaves corroded more severely than those for the roof The influence of the angle of the eaves on the atmospheric corrosion of SS was studied with an exposure test stand simulating eaves. The steeper the angle, the more SS corroded due to the accumulation of chloride on the test specimens. High-grade SS (%Cr + 3x%Mo > 28mass%) are required for eaves use.
