Polarization transfer in quasifree ((p)over-right-arrow, (n)over-right-arrow) reactions at 200 MeV

We have measured a complete set of polarization transfer observables in charge exchange reactions at 200 MeV using the new Indiana Neutron Polarization Facility (INPOL) and the high intensity polarized ion source (HIPIOS), at the Indiana University Cyclotron facility (IUCF). The incident proton beam was focussed on target after being prepared succesively in each of the three spin states, normal ((N) over cap), sideways ((S) over cap) and longitudinal ((L) over cap). Polarization transfer observables and differential cross sections were measured at 13 degrees, 24 degrees, 37 degrees and 48 degrees for H-2, C-12, Ca-40 and Pb-208 and at 13 degrees, and 37 degrees for He-3 and He-4. Some of the data have been analyzed and results are presented. In the case of the H-2((p) over right arrow,(n) over right arrow) reaction the data are compared with recent Faddeev calculations which show good agreement with the data. The present data agree with previous results obtained on the same nuclei at 495 MeV at LANL and we arrive at the same conclusion that no enhancement of the longitudinal spin response over the transverse spin response is observed.
