摘要：
The brain has a very high metabolic rate and therefore is highly susceptible to any changes in its metabolic environment. This article discusses the general neurologic signs associated with metabolic encephalopathies, and details the pathophysiology of the major acquired metabolic diseases associated with secondary brain dysfunction in small animals. Specific neurologic and ancillary clinical signs are detailed with each of the discussed metabolic diseases. Rational diagnostic plans and appropriate treatment strategies are also highlighted.
