A study of chatter frequency of a cutting tool with tool wear in turning preparation

摘要
An analytic model for chatter frequency of a cutting tool in turning incorporating the consideration of the tool flank wear is presented in this research. The mechanism of a self-excited Vibration frequency development process with tool wear is studied. A comparison of the chatter frequencies for a fresh cutting tool and a worn cutting tool is provided in this paper. This theoretical result of chatter frequency agrees qualitatively with the experimental result concerning the development with tool wear. The most serious discrepancy between experiments and the chatter frequency theory is the frequencies at low cutting speeds; this discrepancy can be related to damping effect at tool nose.
