摘要
This paper describes the development, implementation and field testing of an automated energy control system. This system enables commercial and industrial customers to respond effectively to real-time pricing (RTP). The utility industry in the United States is making a transition to a competitive environment. This has led many utilities in the United States and elsewhere to explore competitive pricing approaches such as real-time pricing that can help them retain and expand competitive advantages. As a consequence, advanced communications and control technologies for real-time automated control are under development. Honeywell has already developed and field-tested a real-time pricing control system. Honeywell's original real-time, automated control project was recently completed in New York City at the Marriott Marquis hotel. This project centered on the development of RTP control system that automatically sheds/shifts electrical equipment usage in response to RTP prices. Using RTP Control(TM) the Marriott Marquis hotel saved over $350,000, while increasing business, during two years of operation. Consolidated Edison, the utility provider, saved more than $400,000 through reduced peak demand and reduced fuel costs. To extend the capability of RTP Control(TM), the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and Honeywell initiated two follow-on projects. One project will enhance the product with ventilation control strategies. The second project is developing a Thermal Energy Storage (TES) and central plant optimizer for use under RTP tariffs. In parallel with the development of RTP Control(TM), Honeywell developed an analysis tool, RTP Advisor. RTP Advisor helps customers analyze the impact that real-time pricing and energy control strategies can have on energy cost and use.
