Practical in-house microbiology

Diagnostic procedures used in the typical practice setting include special staining techniques, bacterial culture and sensitivity tests, and dermatophyte culture and identification. Although some practices have opted to send all such work to a reference laboratory (very few practices conduct all microbiology testing in-house), many still conduct a few simple in-house microbiologic procedures.
