On the two-dimensional prismatic platelet in the aged In-microalloyed Mg-Nd alloys

摘要
With an addition of trace indium (In) into Mg-Nd system, the microstructure and precipitates of aged Mg-In-Nd alloys are investigated by high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy. We confirm that a category of prismatic platelet with a two-dimensional (2D) planar structure and a ternary composition is formed extensively in the microstructure. Although the 2D structure is coherent with alpha-Mg matrix, it is elongated along [11 (2) over bar0](alpha) and shortened along [0001](alpha) owing to the substitution of In and Nd for Mg, which is a result of the stress relaxation.
