摘要
Our ability to synchronize estrus in beef cattle has increased substantially with enhanced understanding of reproduction physiology in cattle, and new technologies and approaches. Pregnancy rates of 50% to 70% in timed artificial insemination (Al) programs for well-managed herds with compact calving seasons can be achieved; however, unsatisfactory results (< 50%) still occur. Reasons for poor pregnancy rates within a single herd can range from reproductive diseases to the use of semen of inadequate fertility. A common limitation of some programs appears to be the incidence of anestrus in the group of females to be synchronized. Whether Al will be performed based on detected estrus or at a set time influences the synchronization program that is selected, and the conception and pregnancy rates achieved.
