Empirical Study on Evaluation on the Coordination between Urban Tourism and Urban Development Based on TOPSIS Model

Coordinating urban tourism with urban development is the key to the sustainable development of urban tourism. The paper has done a quantitative study on coordination between urban tourism and urban development in Hangzhou by setting up the coordinative evaluation index system of urban tourism and urban development and applying the TOPSIS model. The results indicate that: (1) The coordination coefficient between urban tourism and urban development in Hangzhou presents a path of continuous increase from 2001 to 2006 and reaches its best level in 2006, the coordination value is 0.7894;(2) The coordination class has changed from "very discordant" to "more coordinating" among different years; it concludes that the coordination state between urban tourism and urban development will be optimized as the deep development of urbanization, However, the improvement extent of each year shows no consistent increasing trend. As time goes on, the improving coefficient of coordination state may reduce in some periods. Some measures should be made to improve and maintain the optimal state between urban tourism and urban development.
