Studies on ion-exchange removal of cadmium from phosphoric acid

Then are presented results of lab studies on the purification of phosphoric acid from cadmium by the ion-exchange method. Cadmium was removed in the form of complex chloride-cadmium ions on weakly basic anion exchanger Amberlite IRA-93. Substantial reduction of cadmium concentration was achieved for 60% phosphoric acid solutions containing 100 mg of Cd per cu.dm. - the content of Cd in the eluat was 7 mg/cu.dm. Operating exchange capacity amounted to 6 g Cd/cu.dm, of the resin; its total capacity varied from 7 to 14 g Cd/cu.dm. The Cd2+ cations retained on the anion exchanger were desorbed with water to give solutions with an average CdCl2 content of 1500 mg/cu.dm.
