摘要
The paper introduces a novel analytical and computational protection scheme for electrical power networks. The proposed scheme depends on online-synchronized measurements of wide area monitoring devices installed at different substations called Travelling Wave Detector (TWD). The TWD detect the high frequency voltage transient signal generated by the fault using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) for obtaining the Wavelet Transform Coefficient (WTC) and its energy. The TWD records the arrival time instant and the peak value of WTC energy signal corresponding to initial voltage travelling wave, each tagged with time referred to Global Positioning System (GPS) base. The System Protection Center (SPC) collects the data from TWD's to detect the faults and identify the faulted section based on the peaks of WTC energy signals and use the arrival time instants information's to locate the line faults. The proposed scheme is tested via an extensive simulation study for 500kV transmission network using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The suggested technique satisfies high degree of reliability and stability.
