Potential application of laser diodes to free space optical communication between mobile on-sea terminals

摘要
Potential use of medium power, 75 to 150 mW laser diodes in free space optical communication between mobile on-sea terminals is investigated. For bit rates from 2.4 to 115.2 kbps, the maximum estimated communication distances are presented, considering different sources of ambient radiation by day and night and medium haze atmospheric conditions. The effects of the position and size of the laser spot on the receiver four-quadrant detector are emphasized.
