The impact of the Cadiz Cortes in Peru.: A historigraphical evaluation

The aim of this article is to provide a reflection on the latest research trends dealing with the early liberal experience that developed in Peru as a result of the enforcement of the legislation enacted by the Caries of Cadiz. A revision of the state-of-the-art historiography allows to highlight the advances made by the new political and social History with regard to the period covered by the years 1808-1814. In the framework of studies mainly concerned with representation and political culture, especial attention is given to topics such as the early modern elections, the configuration of new constitutional institutions (such as ayuntamientos and provincial diputations), and finally the impact that liberalism had on ethnic questions.
