摘要
Lord of the Flies is generally considered as the masterpiece of William Golding, a famous English novelist in 20th century, and he was awarded Nobel Prize for Literature in 1983 because of the novel, which is full of archetypes from Greek Mythology and Bible. They range from images, characters, themes to sceneries that determine the internal consistency of Lord of the Flies, reflecting its aesthetic function and revealing "evil human nature" theme. With theme archetype as its objective, image archetypes its principle part, this research applies to Frye's Archetypal Theory to analyze the archetypes based on the previous researches, and to attempt to construct the system to interpret the meaning of the archetypes in Lord of the Flies, therefore, to better reveal its aesthetic significance and grasp the profound theme of the novel.
