THE INTERPRETATION OF THE BIBLE IN THE CHURCH AND APPROACHES BASED ON TRADITION

The Pontifical Biblical Commission's document The Interpretation of the Bible in the Church (IBC) explores the methods and interpretive frameworks utilized within contemporary Catholic Biblical exegesis. This article seeks to summarize and supplement the section in Part I, wherein a general overview of the approaches based on tradition are acknowledged and incorporated into the interpretive process. The canonical approach, approaches incorporating the Jewish interpretive tradition, and an approach considering the history of the influence of the text (Wirkungsgeschichte) will be briefly examined.
