Considerations on strategies of sustainable management of oil and gas fields in Italy

Many Italian hydrocarbon reservoirs are located in environmentally sensitive areas or close to urban sites, and thus production often poses technical and social problems. In the last decades, hydrocarbon production has induced environmental concerns, so that nowadays the general set of rules point towards enhancing strategies for environmental protection that might foster a sustainable management of these resources. The oil and gas industry is requested to report consistently on its sustainability due to the environmental awareness that has grown in recent years, with particular reference to potential subsidence problems.
