Main contribution of this paper is the development of the mechanical model of composite sandwich structures, which are manufactured from a 3D woven fabric consisting of two face fabrics interconnected by pile yams. The mechanical behavior of 3-D glass fiber/epoxy composite was characterized. The 3D fibers were pretreated with ethoxytrimethyl silane coupling agent to improve adhesion between fibers and matrix. The composites were numerically modeled to predict their behavior under mechanical loads.
