Summary of USNVO activities

Activities in the U.S. over the past year directed toward the realization of a virtual observatory are described. The genesis and evolution of the Virtual Observatory idea is traced, as is the growing involvement of universities, existing national data centers, national observatories, and federal funding agencies. Planned activities over the forthcoming year are described, together with a brief outlook at possible funding scenarios.
