Matrix sparsification by discrete wavelet transform

摘要
In this paper we apply discrete wavelet transforms to create sparse approximations of fully populated matrices. We investigate the transformed matrices by purely discrete techniques. The proposed compression is examined with respect to its accuracy and efficiency. Numerical examples confirm the theoretical expectations.
