THE SYSTEM OF LEVELS IN TORFL AND THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES

Determining and describing language proficiency levels is one of the most important foundations when planning courses, creating materials and teaching foreign languages. Our article provides a comparative analysis of the guidelines that the assessment systems of Russian and other European languages rely on, TORFL and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. We analyze the description of linguistic competences and the tasks types in the standard tests for the elementary level. A key point is the discussion of the methodologies behind these two documents and how their application affects the test structure and its contents.
