摘要
Metamagnetism of the antiferromagnetic Pr and Nd manganites is explained by both the dynamic and static Jahn-Teller effect. The former leads to the appearance of the biquadratic terms in the effective Hamiltonian, due to which, on increase in the magnetic field, the magnetization exhibits a jump. The latter leads to the reconstruction of the d-orbital ordering in a magnetic field with a simultaneous jump in the magnetization. In this case a field-induced lattice reconstruction occurs.
