摘要
The ability of natural magnesium silicates (asbestos) to initiate free radical decomposition of hydrogen peroxide was employed to develop a risk assessment procedure. Chemiluminescence of specific chemical reagent upon interaction with hydroxyl radical was applied for the detection of the radical formation. Natural and synthetic magnesium silicates were used as test samples. The data obtained allowed to distinguish samples according to their ability to initiate free radical decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. The approach permits to estimate a potential hazard of the materials towards living organisms though it does not include biological tests.
