THE CONTRIBUTION OF FORMAL EDUCATION TO THE EFFICIENCY IN AGRICULTURE: AN ANALYSIS FROM THE LITERATURE REVIEW

摘要
Based on the in-depth systematization of 30 studies, we conclude that there is no direct relationship between the variables education and efficiency, once the influence of education on the performance of the agricultural producers is related to, in an indirect way, and also dependent on the capacity of these producers to use the technology, as well as the ability to combine the different information presented in the environment, and the efficiency in selecting the inputs. It is inferred that schooling, although important, is not capable in itself of inducing, in the field, transformations generated from innovation and use of technology. Thus, the heterogeneity of the results suggests that there is a cognitive question to be explored, which may involve Economy and the behavioral sciences. Considering the importance of agriculture, mainly to Latin America, a historical exporter of agricultural products, the public policies must take into account the mental models and the social context in which the individual is inserted, so that, by understanding the logic of decision-making of individuals, they may achieve more effective results in terms of economic growth and development.
