Milk quality of Holstein cows in the Agreste region of Pernambuco

Milk quality of Holstein cows from the Agreste region of Pernambuco State was analyzed. The chemical composition, evaluated by the medium infrared spectroscopy method; and Somatic Cell Count (SCC), obtained by the flow cytometry method was analyzed. The data were collected through the Northeastern Dairy Herd Management Program (PROGENE), of the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE), from 1.799 samples of milk composition, in the years of 2015 and 2016. The milk composition in the herd and CCS were: 3.33 g/100g of fat; 3.19 g/100g for protein; 4.5 g/100g for lactose; 12.12 g/100g for total solids; 8.80 g/100g of defatted dry extract (DDE); 793,880 SC/mL for SCC; 13.35 mg/dL of urea; 2.43 g/100g of casein; and 75.81 g/100g for the casein/protein ratio. Milk from the Agreste region of Pernambuco does not meet the quality parameters established by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA).
