3D mobile display based on dual directional lightguides

摘要
A novel light direction controlling backlight for 3D mobile display was proposed and fabricated. This backlight consists of two identical lightguides which are sysmmetrically placed. One plane of each lightguide is patterned with micro-grooves structure. With the specially deisgned lightuides, the emitting light can be redirected to the left and right eyes respectively by sequentially switching the light sources. The groove angle and spacing of micro-grooves on the lightguides are tuned to achieve directionality and uniformity of greater that 80%. Crosstalk of les than 7% was also obtained. In addition, the module provides the compatibility in 2D and 3D modes.
