THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY AND READING PROMOTION: THEORETICAL CONSIDERATIONS ABOUT ITS EXTENSION FUNCTION

The article addresses a theoretical systematization about the university library, which links it to the university extension process in its dual character of substantive function and training process. The Objective was aimed at theoretically supporting the extension function of university libraries, as well as the main challenges in the current context. Methodologic started from a theoretical systematization that had as general the Dialectical-Materialist method, together with theoretical methods such as the Historical-Logical and the Documentary Analysis. The main results were in a group of general theoretical-methodological foundations about the university library, which rest on a broad, diversified concept, applicable in practice, as a formative, dynamic, integrative and multifaceted institution, which allows a reciprocal and integration with society. The Discussion in light of the current circumstances allowed corroborating the importance of emphasizing the extension function of the library in which Originality is conceived from the development of programs, projects, activities, activities and tasks, with the use of the method and the organizational forms of university extension, from an adequate training of the social actors involved and in function of the integral formation of the university community and society.
