Digital Technologies of Information and Communication in Distance Education: a new trend?

This article focuses on digital information and communication technologies (DICT), and analyzes how they are incorporated into distance education (DE) in the context of cyberculture. The study is bibliographical, and data analysis has a qualitative approach. The research carried out for the development of this article shows that the DICT contribute significantly to the development of the DE in the contemporary world, from the wide use of the learning management systems (LMS). However, it is considered that DICT offer new opportunities for learning in DE, especially for the use of virtual environments. It is also highlighted in the text, as a possible new technological trend in DE, the expansion of the use of mobile devices and ubiquitous learning.
