摘要：
Throughout history, technological evolution and military activity have been linked to each other. The existential challenge to a particular society represented by warfare, combined with the immediate advantage that technology can deliver, tends to accelerate technological innovation and diffusion. The relationship between them, and the social and ethical issues that arise from that relationship, are quite complex, however, and it is useful to try to understand them to inform current technological development.
