SYNTHESIS AND STEREOCHEMISTRY OF SOME STERICALLY CROWDED TRIAZOLYL HYDRAZONES

An attempt has been made to study the stereochemistry of (Nsp-Nsp2)-N-2 single bond and N-sp(2)-C-sp(2) double bond together in one system. For this purpose four N-4-amino-3,5-dialkyl-1,2,4-triazoles (1) were synthesized by reaction of carboxylic acid and hydrazine hydrate. By reacting these triazoles with a ketone in ethanol six new 3,5--dialkyl (diaryl)-N-4-dialkyl (diaryl) methylene amino-1,2,4-triazoles (2) were synthesized. These compounds were characterized from their IR and NMR spectral data. Restricted rotation about the N-N bond and formation of E and Z-products were observed.
