摘要
We report some of the recent, though preliminary, results of our explorations into multi-dimensional phenomena in the context of core-collapse supernova explosions. In particular, we discuss the idea that 3D effects may be crucial to the viabiility of the neutrino-driven core-collapse supernova mechanism, that pulsar spins are unlikely to originate from non-rotating progenitor stars, that pulsar kicks are naturally explained as simple hydrodynamic recoils during explosion, and that multi-angle radiation hydrodynamics simulations suggest that the neutrino radiation fields around the proto-neutron star are much more spherically-distributed than the associated matter distributions. Three-dimensional effects present a rich set of opportunities for explaining core-collapse supernova explosions, but also pose significant computational challenges that are only now beginning to be confronted.
