ATTITUDE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENT TOWARDS SEEKING GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING SERVICES IN OTA, NIGERIA

摘要
The study examined the attitudes of secondary school students towards seeking guidance and counselling services in Ota, Nigeria. Survey design was utilized for the study and the sample consists of 400 purposively selected students with evidence of guidance and counselling awareness. An adaptation of Fischer and Turners's test of Attitudes towards Seeking Psychological Help was used for the collection of data for the study. Research hypotheses were formulated and tested using descriptive and inferential statistics. There is a significant difference in the attitude of students in public and private schools towards seeking guidance and counselling services (x(2) = 92.63, p<0.05), gender has no significant difference in attitudes towards seeking guidance and counselling services (x(2) = 77.69, p>0.05), religion of participants have no significant difference on students attitude towards seeking guidance and counselling services (x(2) = 57.39, p>0.05) and age of participants has significant difference on student attitude towards seeking guidance and counselling services (x(2) = 697.16, p<0.05). The results have implications for counsellors and appropriate recommendations were made for the improvement of guidance and counselling services.
