摘要
The preimplantational genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a relatively new technique in human assisted reproduction (ART) that permits to know the genetic status of embryos generated in the laboratory, and it allows to choose normal embryos for transfer to the patient. To perform PGD it requires a procedure called embryo biopsy, that consist in the remouval of one or two blastomeres by micromanipulation on the day 3 of culture of the embryo, quickly and without alterations of its potential of implantation. Once the genetic dianostic is known, it is possible to transfer the normal embryos to the patient the same day or the day after. Currently it has given special attention to avoid the transmission of some chromosomic alteration to the offspring in patients under ART, specially in patients with advanced age, previos IVF failures, antecedents of chromosomic alterations or recurrent miscarriages, by choosing the normal embryos before to transfer them to the patient. The study of the genetic status of arrested embryos may explain some facts that occur in ART.
