Selection of service tree (Sorbus domestica L.)

The service-tree (Sorbus domestica L.) is a rare species sporadically found in Serbia. The trees are often very old and very large. They yield fruits regularly every year, usually 200-300 kg per tree. The fruits are very tasty and nutritious and are used in traditional medicine. In a survey of a limited area of West and Central Serbia, rich in different species, during a 3-year period (1993-1995) 12 outstanding trees were found and identified. Some of them are characterised by big fruits, good quality and heavy cropping ('Loznica-2', 'Gornja Trepca','Topola', 'Parmenac').
