摘要
M.I.T. Lab's SpectrumWare Project has been developing multipurpose communication systems that can be programmed to receive and transmit many different types of signals. These systems are called `communications chameleons' because they can change to suit the user's needs. The key to the system's adaptability is its software. A communications chameleons is a single piece of general-purpose hardware linked with a wide array of special-purpose applications. Such systems promise to usher in a whole new era of wireless networking.
