摘要
Various attempts have been taken to enhance the performance of paper making and since 1980's the application of nanoparticles to modify wet end chemistry and improve both retention and drainage have been followed. In this research, we have investigated the performance of the simultaneous addition of colloidal nanosilica and cationic starch as wet end section aids in the corrugating medium production using old corrugated container pulp. The retention and drainage were measured. The results revealed that when both compounds are added, the retention did not improve and even minor reduction was observed. However, at higher dosages of cationic starch, first, fine and total retention improved. Drainage and electrical conductivity of filtrate did not change. Our results indicated that simultaneous addition of colloidal nanosilica and cationic starch in not beneficial to improve the retention and drainage.
