Croatian textile and clothing industry

Croatian textile and clothing industries are greatly oriented branches of industry, contributing 16,95% of total Croatian exports. Employees in these branches account for 5,63% of Croatian workorce, and 16,59% of the employed in industry and mining. Data presented in Table 3 show the number of registered firms in the branches with more than 10 people employed to be 157. Table 4 shows a wide range of capacity utilisation, from as high as 80 to 100% in clothing industry, to various significantly lower levels in primary textile production. One of the principal causes is the outdated technology in yam and fabric production. Investments per a worker in clothing indusuy are significantly lower than in textile production, and the level of investments (aimed at exports and due to competitiveness of Croatian industry, both in quality and price) has been mostly constant. The data are presented by counties (zupanije), and strongly stress the importance of Croatian textile and clothing industries for the country's economy.
