摘要
The present investigation proposes to identify statistically the ranges of strain, strain rate and temperature outputs in dry orthogonal cutting of AISI 1045 steel. A finite element model based on the ALE approach is employed with different cutting speeds and feed rates to analyse numerically the thermo-mechanical behaviour in the different shear zones. Simulation results are compared to experimental measurements in order to ensure the consistency of the studied variables. A subsequent numerical study is conducted by neglecting friction at the tool-workpiece interfaces to assess its effect on mentioned outputs and especially on cutting forces. As a result, these numerical simulations highlight that the thermo-mechanical conditions are clearly dependent on the considered material shear region.
