Since many equations of practical systems such as Schrodinger equation, Ginzburg-Landau equation and Orr-Sommerfeld equation are defined in complex number fields, in this paper, the issue of controllability and observability for an [r]-matrix time-varying impulsive system defined in complex fields is addressed. Several sufficient and necessary conditions for state controllability and observability of such a system are established. Meanwhile, corresponding controllability and observability criteria for the [r]-matrix time-invariant impulsive system are also obtained.
