Corrosion behavior of a ferritic stainless steel in a red foaming nitric acid

摘要
The corrosion resistance of the type X28 steel specimens in a red foaming nitric acid, depending on the steelmaking method, heat treatment, the contents of manganese and carbon, and the additional alloying, is investigated. It is shown that the intergranular corrosion (IGC) of X28BI steel can be prevented by alloying it with niobium or titanium provided that carbon and manganese are limited. It is also found that the quenching and tempering of X28BI steel affect its IGC in the red foaming nitric acid contrariwise to the known effects on its IGC in the standard test media.
