In off-grid photovoltaic systems, the presence of storage is crucial to mitigate the intermittency of electrical production. The choice of technology employed is generally made on the lead-acid batteries. However, this option is not completely satisfactory because of certain constraints related to their operation and the intermittency of renewable energy resources. Their hybridization with long-life storage like fuel cell can then constitute an alternative solution. This work concerns at first modeling, simulation of the two solutions of the energy storage, the lead-acid electrochemical one and the PEM fuel cell storage, compared with experimental results from the literature. After that an optimized sizing based on a techno-economic analysis is developed to choose the optimum hybrid storage configuration in this system.
