Dual-polarized UWB Antenna with Unidirectional radiation

In this paper, we present the design of a new ultra-wideband (UWB) frequency selective surface (FSS) based dual polarized antenna, by using an FSS with sub-wavelength unit cells as a backing reflector for a UWB dual-polarized antenna. The studies of the behavior of the proposed antenna reveal that a dual-polarization over the entire UWB band with high polarization purity and a unidirectional radiation with a quasi constant gain of an average of 9 dBi and a compact profile of lambda/10 arc achieved. The features of the proposed antenna make it a good candidate for integration with low profile broadband printed circuits and UWB diversity applications.
