Ovulation induction with Clomiphene Citrate 65 cases study

Clomiphene citrate is the first medical agent used for ovulation induction. The aim of our study was to establish its efficiency in ovulation induction and fecundability over 65 patients with infertility of different etiologies (infertility with anovulation being the predominant one). Methods. The study group - 65 patients with infertility of different etiologies - received clomiphene citrate (doses between 50 and 200 mg/day) until ovulation or pregnancy occurred The ovarian morphological (ultrasound) and hormonal characteristics were compared with those of 50 healthy young patients with spontaneous ovulations. Results. We obtained in the study group an ovulation rate of 75.39% and a fecundability rate of 2.7.54%. The only morphofunctional parameter with proved importance in providing a good response to therapy was the ovarian volume - the patients that did not respond to CC had a significant larger ovarian volume. The serum concentration of midfollicular estradiol and the number of the follicle with a mean diameter larger than 15 mm were significant higher in the CC group compared with control group; the midfollicular endometrial thickness was significantly higher in the control group. Conclusions. Clomiphene citrate remains one of the first line therapies for ovulation induction due to its efficiency, good tolerability and low rate clomiphene events.
