摘要：
Neural networks are computational systems inspired on the behavior of mammals brain that can provide a new approach to the interpretation of several phenomena. This paper briefly describes artificial neural networks, their capacities, behavior and shortcomings. Some applications in geotechnical engineering are also presented.
