Estimation method of the ionospheric D region using space-based radio facilities

摘要
An estimation method for the state of the ionospheric D region and the base of the E region with the use of space-based facilities is suggested on the basis of an analysis of the differential absorption of radiowaves of ordinary and extraordinary polarizations in the lower ionosphere. Satellite ionospheric sounding data are model-analyzed in a frequency band above fxF2. The results of numerical experiments show this sounding band to be prospective for the global satellite monitoring of the ionospheric D region.
