Operational performance evaluation of a sawmill through work delay ratio, yield and efficiency

The aim of this study was to determine and to evaluate the spent time in the production activities of sawn wood of a low capacity sawmill, in Santanesia district, Pirai town, south of Rio de Janeiro state, in order to evaluate its operational efficiency and performance. The obtained results suggest a low operational efficiency in production line I, where non productive activities are superior; while in production line II the productive work is superior to the other activities. Sawmill shows a good performance: the average sawn wood yield obtained is similar to those found in the literature for national sawmills, and the efficiency compares to the North American sawmills at the same technological level.
